World Scout Jamboree 2011

Picture

The actual programme for the Jamboree has not yet been published, but I am sure that it will be a memorable event for all who attend. The site has already been used in 2007 for a Swedish Jamboree, the event being used as a trial to shakeout any problems that may have arisen before the major event.
Northern Province has been asked to provide one troop or more.
Applications are open to Scouts and Venturers aged between 14 and 17 so

How much will the Jamboree cost?

The cost of the Jamboree will be €1500. The €1500 includes the travel to and from the Jamboree, all the main meals at the Jamboree, tents, troop equipment, activity wear, Insurance, Activities, AND the Experience of a lifetime. Each applicant will be expected to make an individual effort to raise his / her funds. On top of that there will be a number of troop week-end camps prior to the Jamboree and also some fund raising events which the applicants will be expected to support.

One important additional feature of a Jamboree is HoHo (Home Hospitality) from a foreign Scout family. It is normal practice at a Jamboree for the host country Scouts to offer the visiting Scouts 3 or 4 days home hospitality either before or after the Jamboree. Further information and advice will be relayed from the Troop Leaders as planning progresses.

 So what now?

If you are interested in this opportunity of a life time – you will not have another opportunity to attend a Jamboree as a Scout or Venturer

All you need to do is complete the application form available to down load at scouts.ie
with a €75 or £65  non refundable deposit to Scouting Ireland World Jamboree 2011, Scouting Ireland, National Office,

Dublin 16.

All communications will be done through email. Please ensure you note a valid email address on your application form.

County Cub Camp 2009 (Harry Potter Theme)

Picture
Between 22nd & 24th May 2009, the ErneScoutCounty held their 2nd annual County Cub Camp. The Camp was held at Castle Archdale, Co. Fermanagh, this year’s CampChief was Liam McMulkin. This year there were approximately 150 Cub Scouts & Girl Guides from the ErneCounty in attendance. The theme of this year’s Camp, was Harry Potter.  The gateway to the camp was decorated with the signs of “Hogwarts” & the four houses of Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw & Slytherin. The rest of the camp was adorned with various drawings, banners, signage etc.. to add to the theme. A full programme was planned for the Friday evening, all day Saturday and Sunday morning. The County started setting up the camp on Thursday 21st, the Groups began arriving from 1830hrs on Friday 22nd . Individual sites were set up and the Cubs & Guides were given supper. There then followed a meeting with Group leaders and staff for a run through of the programme. At 2200hrs we set the Cubs & Guides off on a little night hike around the forest, this culminated in a trip, deep into the “Forbidden Forest”, guided by candle light,  for the Hogwarts sorting ceremony, complete with “Dumbledore, some Hogwart’s professors, the Sorting Hat and a few scary beasties in the forest. Here the children were sorted into their houses & classes for the remainder of camp.  Lights out was midnight; however sleep was of a premium as is the case with any first night of camp.Saturday started with breakfast and then onto the programme for the day. There was a varied programme based on fun activity and the Harry Potter theme, however due to some very inclement weather on the Saturday morning 3 of the bases had to be cancelled. We quickly adjusted, set up three more and kept the programme going and the Cubs & Guides happy. The bases finished off at 1800hrs, the groups broke for tea. Saturday evening saw a very enjoyable successful Campfire organised by Tony Smith assisted by Liam McMulkin. Lights out by midnight again, there was slightly more sleep had Saturday night. Sunday morning started early, again the classes & houses took part in games and challenges, which were marked & scored. Everyone broke for lunch, after lunch every child & group were presented with a certificate of attendance and the winning class got their medals  Camp broke at 1530hrs and the groups were gone, the rest of the camp was cleared and the remainder of the staff were off site by 1700hrs.At this point I would like to personally thank my organizing committee Tony Smith, Celine Gleeson, Debbie Smith, Ollie Beattie, Julie O’Donnell, Sinead Maguire, Paula Gibson, Barry Maguire, Stephen Watson, Jenny Moffatt, Annie McIntyre, Jean O’Reilly, Verona Fitzpatrick, Jo Cox, Rodney Kerrigan, especially thanks to my two right hand people, Tony Smith & Celine Gleeson whose help was invaluable in the organisation of this event. I also like to thank, Darren Johnston, Jo Cox, Barry Watson, Ann Gibson, Dominic McMahon, Jacky, Decky, Papa, Breege Blake form the guides, for their help in running bases, chaperoning groups etc.. After all it’s true what they say, there is no I in Team, without the help and support this event would not have been as successful as it was.  Thanks also to Castle Archdale Country Park (NIEA), Ultimate Water Sports, Stephen McBride and anyone else who gave their help & support to this event.  Yours in ScoutingLiam McMulkin, CampChief
